As the Director of the fashion incubation project, I thought hard on how we could help the designers and really make an impact on the fashion eco-system. Flooding of mass fashion or exaggerated luxury brands has squeezed the livelihood out of independent designers and dried out the individual style of the people. One day, I met a young designer and she told me her story; I started to form an idea of launching a very dedicated platform helping creative fashion talents to market products globally…
She is a very talented womenswear designer and I like her designs. One year ago, she participated in a fashion week and rented a booth there. There were a few buyers that liked her designs but none of them placed orders. They wanted to see her label survive for several seasons before ordering from her line. Buyers don’t take risks! At the end of the fashion week, she didn’t get any orders. As she couldn’t afford continuous burning of money to promote her brand, she had no choice but to go back to corporate designer jobs. It really impacted me. Why are our rights as consumers to access some new creative designer labels always taken away by the conservative buyers whose priority is to safeguard their jobs? Why is the designer’s fate determined by this elite buyer circle? From that moment, I decided to create iSTYLEUP. I believed I could make more of an impact and help new designers, if I developed iSTYLEUP, than operating the incubator.
What if we could help designers and boutiques to sell products to the customers overseas directly? What if we could let more people know and appreciate designer fashion? By conglomerating designers of different characters and boutiques of different styles, we could have more resources and make a bigger impact on the market. That’s how iSTYLEUP began. To once again summarize our mission – we connect talented designers and stylish boutiques with consumers, in a more direct and appealing way. On top of that, we encourage exchange of fashion ideas and inspirations among people.
Inspire, be inspired!
